Off the Chapman Light.

Watercolor; c. 1920.  Initialed ‘EG’ in black ink lower right. Titled ‘Off the Chapman Light’, verso of mount.  The Chapman lighthouse was a Victorian, 3 legged cast iron construction, off Canvey Island, Essex Coast/Thames Estuary.  It was demolished in 1957. Old exhibition labels on the mount noting Royal Academy Exhibition, shipping labels of James Bourlet, London, and fragmentary label saying ‘Ethel…..(Mrs. John Copley)/…NW3/….Woods’.
